STOP BAD EATING HABITS
STOP BAD EATING HABITS
Most of us grew up eating foods that upon reflection, we should not have been eating due to health risks. I grew up thinking any food that you ate was good for you. Eating seemed so harmless and unscientific that it was not an area of concern for many people except those who could not get food due to poverty. We now know that bad eating habits can make you unhealthy, overweight, unhappy and can ultimately kill you.
We are all creatures of habit and we probably have some kind of routine that we follow on what we eat, how we eat, when we eat, where we eat and how often we eat. If you were to stop and consider your eating habits, you would probably be surprised. Sometimes we skip meals, eat weird stuff, eat too often or eat huge portions of food at each meal. Come to think of it, sometimes we eat more when we are upset, frustrated, bored, happy, unhappy, depressed, etc. Then we start to worry about how to lose the weight.
A healthy life does not happen by accident so it is important that we break the old bad eating habits and make a serious effort to start eating healthy. If there are issues in your life that may be contributing to bad eating habits, you have to take small but immediate and consistent steps to correct those issues. You are worth it. You are the best that you have and don’t look outside of yourself for fulfillment or happiness, look within and realign yourself to your core and divine values. Don’t build any imaginary roadblocks to your success. It may be slow getting there, but if you persist with a clear plan of action, you will get there. Bad eating habits makes you put on the pounds then you start to worry about how to lose that extra weight or fat.
Let us look at some of the bad eating and drinking habits.
The Turbo Eating
You eat by quickly shoveling food down your throat without chewing. When you do this you also swallow excess air which leads to bloating. You food also will not digest quickly because you failed to chew it up and this can lead to indigestion. Because of the rate that you are swallowing the food, you may tend to eat too much which will eventually cause you to put on weight.
You can correct this bad eating habit by eating slowly and ensuring that you chew your food completely. This will prevent indigestion, bloating and may prevent you from eating too much.
Not Aware of the Food You Eat or What You Drink
We are a nation of junk food addicts with mega size orders at the fast food joints. I am reminded of a TV show that I saw awhile back where this healthy guy went on a fast food diet for a period of time and had to stop because his doctor reported that he could die due to all the crap he had eaten from the fast food store.
People, listen up. You have to start paying attention to what you are eating. I remember when I stopped eating fast food and drinking fountain soda; it was like I was an addict going through withdrawal symptoms especially for the fountain soda and fries which were my daily fuel. I did get over eating junk food and so will you. Get a proper Diet and Exercise Plan and follow it. Stay away from fast food and most of the processed canned foods. Start cooking healthy meals.
Emotional Eating
I was guilty of this and probably may still be in this category. Sometimes we eat a whole lot when we are emotional and going through some tough times. People sometimes turn to food when they are depressed, frustrated, unhappy or just in a bad mood. Others may turn to food if they are celebrating something and would be careless about what and how much they are eating. Whatever the underlying emotional issues, you have to find more effective ways than eating food to deal with them. We know what will happen if we consistently eat too much food – we will put on the extra weight.
Just Likes To Eat “Good” Foods
Some people just like to eat all kinds of foods without placing any restrictions on themselves as “life is short so you have to enjoy yourself”. It is hard to convince this group of people to change their eating habits since they are not bothered by the emotional and other stigmas other overweight people deal with. They are only swayed to take action when something terrible happens like finding out that they have some condition that was brought about by this reckless eating habit. It is unfortunate that it must get this far for people to take action. Start eating responsibly by eating healthy foods and following a healthy diet plan.
Skipping Meals or Starving Yourself
If you skip meals or temporarily starve yourself, your hunger will come roaring like a lion which will cause you to over eat food and possibly eat junk food to satisfy that hunger. Eat healthy food at regular intervals and gradually try to cut down on the portions that you eat.
Snacking Titan
Are you one of those people that have lots of snack foods like chips, popcorn and crackers stocked up for when you have the munchies or just watching TV? I was one of those people and even though I was usually not hungry, the sight or thought of those snacks dragged me to the kitchen to get some of it. It all stopped when I stopped buying snack foods. Healthy snacks are okay if you are on a good diet and exercise plan that incorporates healthy snacks.
Eating Without Exercising
Now it is clear that we all need to exercise. When you exercise, you have more energy and feel much more alive and want to do more. Exercise is good for your mind and body. It can be speed walking, running, swimming, dancing or other exercises – get a good diet or weight loss plan. I remember many years ago when I had this job where I worked like 12 – 14 hours daily and would get home at about 10:00PM at night. I was always very tired until I started an exercise routine after I got home from work that lasted for twenty minutes followed by a light dinner and warm shower. It would make me have a restful night sleep and give me a refreshed feeling the next day.
So start paying attention to your eating habits and come up with a plan for healthy diet plan and a good exercise routine.
